You could try this site that I find useful when writing grants:

Wages by Area and Occupation

It is the US Dept of Labor national and local wage information site

I would suggest you check with you local United Way office. They can at least tell you the per dollar rate for a volunteer. (Last I checked here ours is around $13 to $14 per hour.) You could then estimate the hours for a certain area (like the library or a special event) that you are aware of and use that dollar amount to calculate the money saved. Also, check with the principal. I know ours tracks the number of volunteer hours for state grant purposes, etc. I would hope the school would be able to provide you with an estimate of those costs. Good luck with the speech!

Hi everyone! I am the PTO president at an elementary school. We are planning our volunteer appreciation reception and I have an idea for a speech but cannot seem to find any info for it! I want to do something on the benefits of volunteering in schools as far as money saved and specific benefits to staff, students as well as the volunteers themselves. I googled it but could not come up with anything. I know there has to be an article about this somewhere, wondering if any one has ever run across a good one. Any ideas???

Amy :)
