PTO Board Member Term

15 years 8 months ago #144428 by PresidentJim
My best recommendation is to make the terms sungle year, but make it so anyone who is interested can run, including the incumbant.

That way the committee, each year, gets to vote and decide on who is best. If the incumbant wants to keep the job then they can run and if the committee feels it is for the best then that person will be reelected.

You could make your term limits 2 years for certain offices, so that when someone gets elected into that specific office they would remain for 2 years before that spot would come open for the election process. You can also have the V.P. automatically become the President the following year, and you could have the outgoing President remain in a non-voting advisory capacity on the board for the year following their term. Lots of ways to do it.

:confused:This will be our 1st official year as a new PTO group at our school. April of this year is when a small group of us got together with the permission of the school and formed our PTO.

Our problem is this.....when it comes time to elect new officers, how do we keep some of the old and bring in some new??? We were trying to come up with some sort of rotation process.....we feel we need to keep a few old officers in place in order to keep the integrity of what we have started.

We are a very small public school.....45 teachers.....196 elementary/jr high student....63 high school students...yes we have been loosing our high school students.....hopefully with the PTO's help our high school can begin to offer more for our children.

We are very proud parents and our school is GREAT.

If anyone has suggestions on elections and keeping some old with bringing in the new...........PLEASE HELP US OUT......THANK YOU......BIG HEARTED PTO MOMS IN A SMALL TOWN IN TEXAS
