Donuts With Dads - A great Success

21 years 7 months ago #117352 by laurib
My flyer is on its way, just a note, on the flyer it states the usual, date, time and place then:

Come to school a little early on Friday and have breakfast with your children. The Parent Club will provide Donuts, coffee and juice. There will be games to play, books to read and great conversation.

This event is for all students from Williams Ranch and Pleasant Valley Schools who bring their Dad, Uncle, Grandpa or any other significant male from their life.

Moms - we will plan a morning for you soon, so don't feel left out.

Hope this helps

Lauri

I would also like a copy of the letter... please send to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. What about kids without dads? That issue always seems to come up at our school. We used to do Grandparents Day but because some kids don't have them in the area, parents made a stink (which I understand but it is not a problem for my kids). So now we have Special Friend's Day and kids can bring whomever they would like.

Would you mind e-mailing me the letter you sent announcing your Donuts With Dad morning. We have been thinking about it and your letter excited me. Did you ask for RSVP? If not, will you next time?

I just had to share...We held our first Donuts With Dads event on Friday morning. I sent out one notice on Monday advertizing the event. Usually we get about a dozen people at our daytime events so I only purchased 6 dozen donuts (thinking that the teachers and staff would be eating donuts all day long). The event flyer stated that they should come to school at 7:30 with their kids and have breakfast. At 7:20 am we only had 4 donuts left, the coffee was gone and cars were pouring in to the parking lot. It was my worst nightmere, to through a party and run out of food. Luckily the fathers and kids were patient and we sent a mom out to buy more food. In the end we figure about 75 dads and 200 kids showed up. The dads stayed around, even after school had started and were seen talking to one another in the parking lot. If you havent had one of these events, you should consider it. We received quite a few phone calls later in the day, from Dads, thanking us for the event and wondering if we would be doing it again. Total cost..about $100, but well worth every cent. We are planning one every other month, but next time I think we will put out a donation jar and have it in a larger room.
