How did you project the movie?

Has anyone ever involved the local movie theatres and had them donate a percentage of the profits to your school??

She used 8 yards of 120" wide muslin (need access to a well supplied fabric store). She cut two panels and sewed them together with one giant long vertical seam. The top edge was stapled to a boom in the stage rigging. The bottom edge was weighted with 2x4 (stapled) to pull the fabric taut. It cost just $48 total (mostly for the fabric) and we can use it over and over. We hung it a couple of days early and any wrinkles went away. You really couldn't see the seam unless you knew to look for it.

Can you tell me more about the fabric movie screen that your parent constructed? We currently don't have a way to view a movie for a large audience and this sounds like a cost effective way to go. Any info would be helpful such as what type of fabric was purchased and how easy it was to see the picture.

Thank you!!!

We had our first ever Family Movie Night last Friday. It was great! We sold about 200 tickets at $2 each (out of 550 families) and had candy and pop/water for .50-$1. We showed Finding Nemo in our cafeteria. Luckily our school has a great surround sound and projection equipment. One mom made a huge fabric screen (10'x20') which the custodians tacked to the stage rigging. If it weren't for the darn folding chairs, you'd thought you were at the theater. This was the perfect family event for elementary kids. Not too much planning required, and everyone had a nice night out. Home by 9:00. We even made a couple hundred dollars.

Thanks, Tim, for the inspiration and info we needed to set this up. We'll definately do it again.

Hi Kate -

Welcome to our site.

Funny you should ask about Movie Night. Have you seen: www.schoolfamilynights.com ?

Family Movie Night (free posters, how-to, discounted license) is one of the offerings.

can anyone tell me if you have ever had a movie night for a fundraiser? We are hoping to rent a movie and show it to the families to raise $$ for our new playground. We are thinking about charging for entrance and are wondering how we should go about getting permission from the movie company to do this...please let me know if it can be done! thanks, Kate
