Another one I think would be fun would be to center a entertainment family night around music - probably a Friday night. Activities might include:
Choir or some other student group singing
Karoke (sp??)
Dance lessons - different types/different rooms
Name that Tune type game
Dance group exhibition
You could really incorporate any activity or game that involves music - even a cake walk/book walk type activity (they walk while the music plays).
Awhile back (probably quite awhile) there was a thread about organizing a safety fair where the PTO hosted it and there were lots of different centers - each dealing with a focus - food safety, bicycle safety, stranger danger, water safety, drug awareness, etc.
We've never pursued it ourselves, but I always thought that would make a nice family activity - evolving it to a carnival type event with high energy, concessions, and hands-on activities.
Don't know if it would work at night - might be better as a Saturday thing.
I've liked the ideas some have on here of a game night - not where everyone goes to different stations to play different games, but where teams are formed and then play "family feud" or "jeopardy" on a stage. I'm interested in persuing this at our school, but not quite sure how to get it started. We've also had a heritage festival in the past that had to go belly up because of restrictions over serving food not prepared in the school cafeteria. I'm wanting to get it started again, featuring more than just food (include dance, games, etc)
