Turn Off TV Week

I'd like to know what people have done for this as well. I think a night bowling or some other family activity would be good to keep from falling back into the habit would be good. Maybe you could get together a booklet of local vendors that give discounts on activities like mini golf and bowling, group rates to museums as well as free activites like a map of local parks and bike trails. Some people don't know what's available. We have a wonderful park 2 minutes away that hardly anyone at school really knows about because it's not in the normal traffic flow.

Our PTO is hoping to sponsor a Turn of TV week during the national event in April. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. What worked, what didn't?

Here are some of my preliminary ideas.

TV Cover Decorating contest: Send in a picture of your TV covered to prevent viewing.

Spring School Clean up: Come to the school with gloves, trash bags, rakes, etc to help pick up all that trash that we find when the snow melts.

Buttons/Stickers/Hats for students/parents to wear at school/work saying "I'm TV Free".

Discount dinner at local resturant with PTO members volunteering to help bus tables wash dishes, etc.

Family Fitness night (possibly cooridinate with a Diabetes Walk we've been asked to possibly host)

Family Game night: you all know what that is.

Cooridinate Reading nights - or get a library card sign up with local librarys.

Prize drawings for families who "made it through": I know I'd have to do this on the honor system but I think we can tollerate the number of families who'd lie. I think for the most part people will be honest.

Any ideas or experience will be appreciated.
