We decieded as a group to purchase school supplies to our students with money earned from recycling. It's a way to give to every student without picking and choosing and it also shows parents that this program really does work!! Myself as a mother of two, I love the idea that I don't have to fight the crowds to buy them! We were not able to buy the backpacks, but our local grocery store is donating paper sacks with handles, and we've made bright colored flyers to go on them to welcome students back. We will spend a week packing each students bag of supplies, and then hand them out, by class, at our "Back to School Night". Good luck!!
This may sound silly but I would love to know how you would go about handling handing out the supplies and backpacks. Would you have it as a fundraiser, or donate them? I am very new to the PTO scene and have alot to learn.
