We are doing our first one on Sept 24th. My thought was to have a social event before school started, however, or principal wants it in the classroom from 9-10am???? Not sure what the turn out will be because dad's will have to take off work for that time???

Ours will start 50 minutes before school starts.
We are not involving any activities at the breakfast as it is not really necessary. Like LauriB posted, it is just a social event for the kids and parents to sit together have some breakfast and chat.
We originally planned to have puzzles and legos out on the tables in the school library, but the event had a much better turn out than we ever expected. We now host the events in the school gym, and it is just a social event. Everyone gets a chance to meet eachother or visit with old friends. I like the idea of meeting the parents of kids in my sons class. I always tell my kids that they cannot go to someones house if I don't know the parents so my kids run me around, introducing me to everyone of their friends moms. As for a time frame, we usually start an hour before school starts, people flow in and out, but mostly they stand around talking.
Our school is doing Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad this year. I was wondering if you could provide me with some ideas what "types" of activities (games/stories etc. -- please be specific) you offer during your Muffins for Mom and/or Donuts with Dads programs? How long do you usually run the program -- 45 minutes or an hour? Thanks
