We have a king and queen contest every year as our only fundraiser. Every child collects "votes" at 50 cents. They get one ticket to use at our carnival for each vote.
We raise over $20,000 each year with our king/queen, carnival, spagetti dinner, and silent auction, but it is the king/queen contest that brings in the most by far.
The Friday morning of our "Hoe Down" we have an assembly. Anyone bringing $100 gets a prize and comes down on the gym floor. We then announce the princes and princesses and then king and queen.
At the end everyone bringing in $100 gets to silly string the teachers while the others watch. We had over 60 kids bringing in over $100. Our king brought in over $800 and queen brought in over $1000.
We have done this for over 10 years and it is a very successful formula for us.
Would you do the entire school or just your "graduating" class? You could have a dance the night before to announce the King and Queen, like a "mini-prom"

We are going to do where every .50 they collect before the event is a vote. The boy & girl w/ most collected votes receives King & Queen. They are announced Fri before festival and crowned day of. They receive a ticket per vote.
We are hoping to make our Harvest Festival our main fundraiser and cut out the smaller ones that we have had in the past.
I have read a lot about doing the king and queen of the festival. Love the idea & I get the concept, but how do I write it out simply to explain it to the parents what we are doing. I tend to be too wordy in my explainations. Can anyone help?
