I would suggest two different movies for the younger and older kids. We recently did a movie night at our school, and the older kids were totally bored. Of course, we went with a rated G movie, because of the questionable contect of even PG movies. :o(
You just need to made sure you have a movie license for showng these movies.... we showed "CARS" and the kids loves it. We also showed "The Polar Express" in December... another big hit--- look for movies that will be just released before your movie night-- now a days families go out and purchase the movie right when it comes out, so promote whatever movie you are going to show. Add in items to make it even more fun for the kids, popcorn, candy, ect.
You can't go wrong with showing the newer Disney movies. Our students would be bored out of their minds if we showed them Mary Poppins or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Our kids like more modern movies like Over the Hedge, Toy Story, Monster House, etc.
Just be careful - some of the older children's movies are really long by today's standards. Chitty and Poppins are both well over 2 hours. Don't overlook the older new animated Disney movies like Alladin or Little Mermaid. Even though they seem very new to us, they might be fresh to such young kids. Sword and the Stone was one of our favorites, Disney animated but less popular.
