Fun Day

We just had our Field Day for grades 1 through 4 this past Friday. Here's all of the events/stations:

- Sponge Relay Race
- Frisbee Throw (using hula-hoops for targets)
- Tug-O-War (new this year - Kids loved it!)
- Fireman Relay (2 kids, each in a hula-hoop run together to finish, then one runs back with both hoops, then next kid goes, etc.)
- Chalk, Bubbles and Parachute
- Fastest Kick and Throw (town police brought radar guns)
- Hula-Hoop Chain Race (Lock hands and guide the hula-hoop around the chain of kids until it gets back to start)
- Hippity-Hop Relay
- Tattoos and ice pops
- Spoon Relay (usng plastic golf balls) -

We provided every volunteer, staff member and child a latex wrist band with the school Name and logo.

Our mascot (we purchased a costume this year) was walking around.

In addition we coupled the Field Day with the Family BBQ and the BOGO Scholastic Book Fair. I figured since we normally get over 100 volunteers anyway, why not make it one day with everything. That way more parents would be willing to volunteer and the parents would not have to take off more than one day.

Hope this helps.

Dress up relay: run down put on the outfit (pretty outrageous) that is there, run back, take it off and the next person puts it on, runs down takes it off, etc.
Have a fun station: just fun games to play - fishing in a kiddie pool, lawn darts, throw a football into a hoola hoop, etc. Many can be done from a wheelchair
We had a parachute that the teachers & parents would fan up and the kids ran through. would be fun for a child in a wheelchair as well.
We set up a volleyball net, but had huge balls that the kids were throwing back and forth. There were about 4 of them and the kids had a blast. If one hit the ground, the other team scored a point.
For little kids: Dino Dig, put sand in a kiddie pool with little object and then kids run down, feel through and find an object and run back.

Not all games need to have a winner. Just keep the games going and offer as many as you can so they find something enjoyable during the course of the day.

I was at event the other day and they held a clothes line hang up.They had rope hanging up and 2 teams. Each team had a laundry bag of clothes shirt, socks, pants etc.First one in line hung them with clothspins and the next took them down and put back in bag they kept it up until the first team to go through the whole line won. It was so funny and the kids loved it.

We never seem to have a lack of volunteers on fun day. An obstical course is a great idea! I will write that one down!
Unfortunatly, inflatables are discouraged at our school. Our princpal is not a fan due to the high risk of injury. But, we could probably incorporate some sort of carnival games like fishing out the ducks for the little ones, and a bean bag knock down for the older children. Thank you!
Keep the ideas coming!

It sounds like you guys had a great time. We actually had to cancel our Field Day this year. Lack of parental involvement was the reason.

We plan on having an obstacle course next year and hiring a company to come in and do the whole event so we won't have to depend on volunteers. The company has lots of inflatables and games. It will cost a lot more, but the kids deserve to have the best day that we can provide.

Hi all. We had our annual Fun Day at our school today. It was HOT HOT HOT. The kids had a great time, the parents were burnt to a crisp and sweaty, but were so helpful. Our parents ran the games effortlesly... which leads me to my point.

If your school holdsa fun day, what kinds of games and or activities do you have?

We are a K-5 school with 500+ kids. We have several LLD classes, and two children in wheelchairs. Last year we purchased a bowling game so that the 'challanged' children were able to participate in more thatn just one evet. We are looking for new and exciting ideas. Some things we have now are tricycle races, sponge relay, basketball shoot, sack race etc. We do have some new ideas for next year, but I wanted to put it out to all the wonderful folks on these boards. Such great ideas, such wonderful minds! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you believe, you can achieve.
