I LOVE this idea! I will be sure to tell my board about it, and would love to hear from all who manage to do it, and see how it worked!

I tried this last year. Several people said they thought it was a good idea. So, I typed up a letter to explain it. I even had different prices (they could bring in their own bagged lunch for less cost). It was on one of those days that the kids only went to school for about 2 hours anyway. It was a chance to let the parents stay at work or go shopping or just have a babysitter for the rest of the school day. I did specify that it was only for K-4 students. Out of about 200 letters sent out, I only got about 50 of them back. All of them, except one (she was the VicePresident and was going to help anyway), responded NO. So, it was squashed before we could even try it.

We have a parent's night out each year usually about two of three weeks before the holiday's. We have students from 5-9 and they enjoy either pizza or hot dogs, a craft to take home and a recently released movie. Our school only charges 5.00 dollars. You might need to consider ideas for diffent ages, we are K-5. Somtimes the older kids might need a little extra to do or something different then a craft.

Hi, We are planning our parents day out on a Sunday in Early Dec. we are having 8th graders do community service hours and myself and another parent will oversee. We have stations to set up face painting, games, Having it duringthe day we only need snacks and drinks...no dinner We are thinking 10.00 per family for three hours Anyone have any more suggestions? I think it could suck in many who dont volunteer at all and maybe get them excited about other things they dont show an interest in!!

Our school did thios and while the planned location for the Parent's Night Out (a fundraiser gala) had quite a few parents participate, their were very few parents who chose to facilitate the child care portion of the night. My recomendation, select a group of older children (12+) who would be availiable to babysit that night and make it like a data base. Two babysitters can be disbatched to houses who need sitters for the night. Good luck!

Sounds like a good idea. Our school does an opposite of this, we hold an annual Valentine's Dinner/Dance for parents of the community.
