slumber party

Our administration, I think, even with the change in principal a couple of years ago, would support this as long as it had value and doesn't end up being just a "babysitting" night.

Value, for us, would have to be something tied in academically.... like reading, math, science, etc. Something fun, but "valuable" fun.

It would also have to have plenty of volunteer/parent support, that is proven up front.

I love this idea and have been considering something similar for my Girl Scout Troop. One question that I have is, for a parent group, do you have any issues getting permission for overnight activities? I am in a public school and I'm not sure we would be able to do this...never mind the possible lack of enthusiasm from parents at their children being in the school overnight.

I used to attend lock-ins all the time as a child and teen, but we are (unfortunately) in a different time now.

Thanks!

Our library every 3 or so years has a "sleep over" as part of our A/R incentive for the year. Basically the kids are dropped off with teacher and parent volunteers around 7pm. They do games, crafts, watch movies, read, etc. until about midnight. The girls then sleep in the library and the boys in the music room, with chaperons (those are the only 2 areas in the school with carpet!) and then the kids are picked back up by 8am the next morning. Donuts, juice and coffee is served prior to that.

It is limited to no more then 50 to 75 kids (based on an A/R point goal that is set at the start of the year.) A permission slip is required to participate. It is with the understanding that any child that gets "called down" more then twice will be sent home as well. The kids are also encouraged to arrive in the pj's (appropriate sleep wear) and only bring their sleeping bags, stuffed toy (if desired) and pillow, no extras like electronics, clothing, etc.

The year my kids did it (they were in 4th grade) they loved it. My husband was a chaperon and wasn't as fond of it due to a few problem children.... lol

Hi Mrs. K-
Check out the photos on our Family Movie Night page . Kids in sleeping bags, watching movies! Family Movie Night kits are free and have a lot of fun ideas in them. God bless you if you can find parents to chaperon all night ;)

Anyone else do something similar to Mrs. K's idea?

slumber party was created by Mrs. K
My PTO is trying to come up with new ideas/events to host at our school. All the kids are between 5 and 10 years old and we were thinking about hosting a slumber party. The kids would sleep in the gym and have pizza, pop, watch movies, etc... Has any other group done this? Basically just looking for some feedback.
