Here is a news article on the boy who got suspended because the mother would not spank him.

My 2 cents...Would I send my child to a school that has this policy???? Probably not, but if you do then you need to abide by their rules. Clearly you know their policies when you enroll your child and sign the consent form. She was well aware of them. She says she does not believe in spanking...that being said she had no business enrolling him in that school.

Another article noted that the disciplinary notices had been piling up against him. So this was not 1 act that led to this happening. My question would be then what form of discipline is she using? Probably none at all and therefor why these notices were piling up against him. He is a 6 year old with no fear of any consequences for his actions.

That school was a religous school. I just can't remember where it was.

mykidsmoms, Certianly the attacker needs counseling but gee whiz! That is another issue I have. I realize teachers have ALOT on their plate but if they see potentional for a problem that severe, someone needs to step in! Teenagers aren't known for their brilliant decisons. These kids with that much anger need some guidance. I do not blame that mom at all for not letting her child go to a session with the attacker.

WOW. We're at a private, religious school and I've never heard of anything like that and we're in the Bible belt. That's something else..not sure what I think about that...

We very recently had a high school girl attack another girl in the hallway and hit her hard enough the girl ended up going to the hospital with a concsion and still having some dizzy spells. Well, our Dean suspended the attacker but then turned around and told the parents of the injured girl "You need to attend couseling etc with the other student in order for this student to return to the school" Now I was proud of the Mom as she called back and told him he was off his flipping rocker if for one moment he thought her daughter would even want to go back to the school if she was there...also if the attacker DID go backto the school she was going to seek legal action. The attacker was expelled. But still, if you go into couseling, I don't think that was a time for Love and Logic!

I am probably going to open a big ol' can of worms here but I cannot get this off my mind.

I am terrible about remembering names and places so bear with me (I saw most of this on Fox News). There is a lady who had her son enrolled in a private school. The child got into some trouble and the admministrators told her to spank him or he would get a 1 day suspension. They say this is policy, but she says she did not sign that contract. Should they not have let her child attend if she wouldn't sign the contract? That is their rules she had a choice in the matter. I applaud the school for taking discipline measures. They didn't push the spanking issue but made it clear that student will have to abide by the rules. Even her little angel. Her fuss didn't seem to be so much that the child got into trouble but that he had to be punished in the way the school clearly stated. Make sense? I am not getting much sense out of it either. I just wondered about some of your school policies and what your take on this situation was. By the way, she had signed that contract to spank or suspend the year before. I do know of one private school that states the parent has to spank the child at school and I don't think they give the suspension option.
