Child's teacher for next year....

I've been told by others if you're going to make a request to request who you don't want and why. But, like I said, it has to be a very legitimate reason.

What does everyone think of a request to have any teacher except "teacher X?"

Last year, our loser headmaster put something in our school newsletter actually soliciting requests...in years past, people did make the requests, but they didn't really like hearing them. We are a private school, so it does really make a difference because they want you to be happy and stay at the school so they try to accomodate you. I have occasionally requested a teacher and for next year did request a teacher for my son, but not one for my daughter because she will have several teachers. We are a small school so there are only 2 teachers per grade and some I definitely wouldn't want.

On the last day of school, the teachers take the kids up to the next grade. Tell them what class to go into and thats where they meet their next years teacher and see who's in their class. This is the way it's been done for the as long as I can remember.

Over the course of the summer, if they get three complaints it's a lot and then they move those kids around. There are only one school in the district that doesn't do this and that would be KMA's school.

We find out tomorrow (that's the rumor anyhow). Tomorrow is our last day of school. I have spent a couple of summers pacing the floor wondering who my kids have. One year there was a phone tree. One mom found out and called a few more to tell them the results were in and so on and so forth.

I wished behavior challenged children could be seperated at our school, I am sure that is not appropriate though. I know a few teachers this year are so ready for a well deserved vacation. Seems like one teacher had several that needed to be in an EBD room, but we don't have one of those.

KERA had the idea of having high-medium-low kids in the same class in KY. I don't think I like that very well. My mind may change when I start teaching, by then I'll probably be to old to remember how I felt about it in the first place. Ha Ha. It is very obvious to the "high" kids who the "low" kids are and it does not do well for the self esteem. Plus you can't teach at the faster pace that the "high" kids need or they will get bored and if you teach too fast the "low" kids get bored. You can't win for loosing. At least at my kids' school all kids get pulled for reading and other things in most classes and when I was in school only the ones with problems were pulled to go with the Chapter 1 teacher. KERA has come along way since 1990 and there have been alot of good changes. I guess we have to take the good with the bad.

Yep, our teachers gather together and divide boys, girls, problems, high & low students and place them from there. I know that class lists have been made but, teachers have not been assigned a list yet. The past few years we have found out by the last day. But, there have been times when it's been up in the summer before knowing. I'm sure it will be fine no matter what, I just don't like surprises. ;) We have a great staff and since being involved in PTO I have gotten to know them and have found I really like some of the ones that parents have complained about for years. It does make it easier when you know they're approachable.

Thanks for all of your replies!!! :D
