Message Boards Maintenance

I just got timed out because I took too long to type my response. Luckily, it still posted my reply after I logged in but it would've been a shame to lose the work. It was a long post and I had to do a bit of back & forth research on the web. I've gotten in the habit of 'copying' a post before hitting enter so if I get kicked out I can just 'paste' it back on.

I understand the reason for timing out idle members but it sure would be helpful if the system recognized that a member was simply in the middle of typing a long post before kicking them out. Unless that's the master plan to quiet us long-winded folks.... Hmmmm, lesser plans have failed to shut me up but you may have found a way.... I know a few folks who would pay you for your secrets!

Hey TIm

When typed the last few letters of my post... It would go back to the 'Thank you for logging in screen' - so I never got a chance to submit my post (submit reply) could just be my laptop but I'm not sure- I've only posted a few times so far- It hasnt done it on the oth (ie I'd get ready to type e-r and I'd be logged back in (although I was already logged in)

Hi NJ -

I believe there are a couple of options. The top left-hand box of options, changes depending on whether you are logged in or not.

One button sometimes says "today's posts". That's the one you're looking for. The "new posts" button, does basically the same thing -- but it shows posts since your last visit (if you're logged in the system knows when you last visited). That's a nice feature if you: a) only come once in a while or if you b) come several times in a day.

Tim - When I click on New Posts, I only see a few messages. Is there a feature with this software that shows all the posts made in the last 24 hours? I had bookmarked that previously and it was helpful.

Replied by JHB on topic RE: Message Boards Maintenance
Many boards I visit have "pinned" topics where a reference topic is "pinned" to the first slot in the category so that everyone sees it when they open the section. It's not usually open for comment and deals with a subject that gets asked over and over.

I would LOVE to see us have one (under RR or Management or both) that concisely answers the question about how-to-get organized, "how do I get my 501(c)(3).". It's one of the most popular questions for newcomers and we answer it again and again. I'd like to see a high level overview that explains the basic areas (organizing your group, state issues, federal issues) and some terms. Not a huge amount of detail - just enough to give them a clue before they start asking questions.
