TYVEX is the plastic that goes on houses, i think the simulated wood is called TyRex, but i may be wrong again about the spelling. sorry for any inccorrect infos. anyway, this BB disclaimer says no accuracy guraenteed, and i can vouch for that right here, i admit it, i have the spelling WRONG and cant find the correct one!
TYVEX is best, from what i know about woods and fake woods...it doesnt splinter, needs NO upkeep, and was not treated with arsenic. might cost more up front, but the easy wear more than covers that expense.
Actually we were thinking of varnishing the boards so the kids can use a real game board to play scrabble etc. I also worry about our Colorado winters and north winds and how this will work out.
The building manager is excited abotu this and is looking into using recycled material instead of wood. He went to DYI web site for the instructions.

What a cool idea, maybe add a sliding drawer at one end to hold the pieces.
Most of the boards would judt have to be scetched out with TSquare and ruler then either routered or wood burned (paint optional?)

Our eighth grade class recently built a outdoor classroom that looks great! In a few years it will be amazing (the thought my daughter got to be apart of something her siblings will enjoy is so great, a perk you could say!)
One of the items built was a set of picnic tables. The cost for lumber was $100 per table- not too bad!
So my question is, has anyone thought of building these tables and putting board games (the actual board from like checkers or scrabble) onto the table with each grade level (K-6 in our school) responsible for their bag of game pieces. We have one student in a wheel chair and often see others with broken legs etc and nothing for them to do. I was thinking a couple tables with two game boards on each would be a great addition.
