Is there a Rule ?

Our bylaws state that any PTO member which would include the chairpersons & Executive board, must have a child in the school. We also have terms for each of our Executive Board positions. It depends on what your bylaws state. If this person still wants to be involved, however, he/she can still be active by conducting your annual audit of the account. We require an annual account audit by 2-3 people each summer &/or when the Treasurer position changes hands. That way you get a new Treasurer, but she can still be connected for "old time sake".

Our bylaws state that they have to have a child at our school, or be the main caregiver of one. I have heard of things like this but maybe it is time for a change.

Our bylaws permit parents, teacher, staff, and interested members of the community.

for us in our bylaws you need to have a student in the school. We also have term limits for the treasurer.

Our bylaws state that anyone that has an interest in being in the PTO whether they have a child there or not, can be a member.

That being said, obviously if you have elections and they are voting for this person, they don't see a problem with it.

No rule, no. Unless it's in your bylaws.

No matter who the treasurer is, I hope you have strong controls and checks-and-balances built in. Term limits may also help. Term limits especially recommended for treasurer.
