Elections

It is pretty sad that one would come to a message board and state things that do not state the whole truth! The PTO of this spoken school had no choice but to change the election day due to a mother who wanted to run for a position but was not able to be present for the meeting. When this mother found out she had to be present but could not she threw a complete fit about this!!! The executive board had no choice but to resched. and look at the by laws because of this mother. Once they did so, it was found that the by laws have not been reviewed since 1994. They then changed and voted on these issues accordingly. What was done was not out of revenge. It was fair! They broke no law! It also said on a notice that we recieved about the up coming elections that things were subjected to change. Those of you who have been responding to this mom are only fueling her fire. I know you don't know but only one side. This mother has not done anything but cause problems all year! She does not deserve to be on this board! I only ask, What is this teaching our children? How sad!

Babies2 - sorry to be rude but do you have anything other than nasty comments to bring to this discussion

The original poster asked REAL questions and is getting answers - as with most posts we dont know ALL or Both sides of the problem - question.

As for the original posters question- if even half of what they've asked about- elections being cancelled, attendance req being changed, bylaws being changed without MEMBERS voting.

Then playing nice, shutting up, not causing trouble or being beligerent (sp?) is the LAST thing that should be done

The only one acting like a baby and not playing nice is the one well... with baby in the title of the posters name

PLease give us some pertinent and actual facts (and I'm probably gonna get in troulbe for this- or as one of my fave song waxes poetic "Dont go away mad, just go away") Cool off and bring some good discussion

You comments add nothing to the discussion at hand

Perhaps the pto in question was asked by a certain member to review the bylaws by the member in question. When the bylaws were changed, that member then didn't like it. People should not open a can of worms if they can't deal with the consequences. Moms who continually fight, are beligerent, try to get one teacher against another, and sneak treats in which are forbidden by the school board, should be banned from Pto functions and involvement. Did you ever learn in kindergarten to play nice and get along with others? You seem to be one big headache!!!!

As long as no one else has a problem with it and you modify your by-laws to cover (if needed), then there should not be a problem. Any chair should have the opportunity to co at any time. Just b/c you have a co one year does not mean you have to every year either. As you have seen I'm sure your PTO floats and changes over the years, with all the faces that move in and out. A co can be a very good thing and it is that many more friendly positive people involved and supporting your school.

Help. Our Nominating Commmittee is doing a great job but we have a few instances where 2 people want to co-chair the Treasurer and some of the VP positions. I can't find anything in RRO that says you can't do that - can you as long as you modify your by-laws to cover?

If they changed the bylaws when there was still 3 meetings left in the year so that parents could attend them, that is one thing. But if parents were under the impression that they only needed to attend one or two and then the rules change just before the election, that is downright dishonest & unethical. A business operating this way could be reported to the Better Business Bureau or be sued. A PTO operating this way could lose their 501C3 status if it were to be reported!
