MightyJo We already did the transition so to speak so the new elected president will be chairing. She has called me and told me she has new ideas for how our meetings should be run and how our organization should be run since she has been in other organizations. I just have a problem with that since she has never been to one of our meetings or to a function. I know it is good for new ideas and that is welcomed but I'm not for huge changes til you see what we have done. Thank you for your imput.....it really helps!

Angel,
It's a shame that your PTO exec. board has become a matter of "us" versus "them". Is your June meeting a transition meeting with both current officers & new officers? If so, who will be chairing the meeting?

Perhaps you can speak with the chair for your meeting to discuss your agenda in advance. That way the two of you can tactfully set an agenda which could eliminate some of the "us" vs. "them" and put the emphasis back on working together for the children.

Regarding setting up committees now for next year. I don't know all of your circumstances, but it makes sense to have all your committee chairs in place now and certainly some of the committee members. Nothing says you can't add more members to your committees in the fall when new parents sign up.

Good luck,
Jo

critter,
Sounds like we have gone through some similar stuff. We had our election 2 weeks ago and the same officers were running and we gave til 3 p.m. the day of election for anyone else to run with the election being at 7. We normally have our meetings in the morning but had a special time for the election so anyone could vote. At the last minute a whole ballot of people were submitted. Anyway, 1/2 of us one and 1/2 of them one. The new president has never been to a meeting or even attended a function. She has no idea what we have done all year. I was re-elected as v.p. again and I have never even met this women. How do we go on?We had a transition meeting but the president couldn't make it. Our next regular meeting is Later in June and I'm afraid it is going to be really ugly. Two sides...and that is not what this should be about. This was our first election so we do have some fine tuning to do on our by-laws. (live and learn the hard way). We have things planned already for next year (isn't that what you are suppose to do?) Our President never appointed anyone we always tried to get volunteers for our committees and what was left over or the things the officers would head and get people to help out. Well we are being talked about because we have a lot of our committees set up already for next year. Was this wrong? Some of our funtions happen just before school starts and right after. We need things in place not just trying to figure it out. I am sick. We worked our tails off like crazy last year. The teachers, staff, principals and superintendent appreciate what we have accomplished and for the kids and the school. But there were some parents who did't like some of our members. So it isn't about what has been done for the good of the school. I am not looking forward to this next meeting. I'm afraid it is going to be like a meeting we had in the fall when the administration forced us to offices in order to keep us going. I accept any words of wisdom and encouragement. This could be a long year if I stay.

Mykidsmom,
I didn't realize that the person who ran against you was the CURRENT pres. Sound like a sticky situation. But it also sounds like you have a pretty good handle on it.

Keep us informed.

Oh yeah. she would want nothing more than to stay on but the membership spent 4 months this past school year trying to get rid of the President! Also she is refusing to turn over Treasurer Reports she has along with final reciepts that I need to reconcile the books.
Outside the PTO she is really nice and I have really enjoyed getting to know her and her family but once she walks into school she is a whole other person that noone wants to deal or work with. Same for the Treasurer.
I have been given a couple names of new parents coming to our school this fall that are very intrested! Cross your fingers!

Mykidsmom,
You said the elections are over & you won. Does the other person who ran for Pres. have any interest in the sect'y or treas. position? That would prevent ill feelings AND fill at least one of the vacant positions.
