Not quite sure what you are looking for but most districts have some type of mentoring program in place. Our city schools does and maybe you could contact them for assistance. There is contact info on thier web site at Many of our schools take parent volunteers to help with "at risk" students. By law we are fingerprinted and scheduled according to our personal schedules. Very hard to find people available in the day so we are looking to enter into local businesses for assistance.

Hey Jo, I think what she means on the business mentoring is program that "John" whom is a manager in a Kmart (for example) helps "Jeff" whom also works @ the store with the training he will need to move up in the store. My husband was involved in this type of program and it is wonderful! Anytime "Jeff" has an issue/question that is work related, he can talk to "John" and be able to get the answer he needs. "John" can also learn from this and some companies look highly upon this. I don't know about Kmart as a company but I was just there today so I have Kmart on the brain!

Jennie- I think some service groups in your area may be of help to you for the business part (try the Opitmist International Group as this is their focus, children). Also I would try contacting the guidence office or the staff member at school that aides students with career choices. A mentoring program is a terrific program to start and I wish you so much luck!
I hope I helped and may the force be with you!!

I don't know if I'm thick-headed today or what...but, I don't understand several things.
1. Could you describe the programs you are trying to establish? By "teacher" mentoring, do you mean that people who are teachers by profession, do fun activities with kids (not necessarily from their school) in their free time? And I can't even guess what "business-based" mentoring is...
2. What do you mean when you say you'd like info from an administrative AND provider background? Administering what? Providing what?
3. Are you a volunteer coordinator at a school or what? With a PTO/PTA? (Your e-mail mentioned something about the PTO taking over volunteer activities for the school district, but then you said that the district decided to employ someone...? I really don't get it...)

Once we understand better exactly what you are trying to do and the type of info that would be helpful, some of the wonderful folks here can probably chime in with some info.

Please enlighten us.
