Using Classrooms

the favorite game at our carnival is the cake walk. an easy way to get the goodies is to have a cake decorating contest to your winter carnival theme. space saving games would be guess how many objects are in a container, or a guess the weight game, or a sucker pull. we do use the classrooms as well and the custodial staff puts them back together after we clean-up. good luck!

You got my attention at "the principal words don't matter"....You need a higher person here, yep, I would not only call the fire cheif but invite them to a meeting! I know they have other priorites but 1000 people crammed into a hallway and a misiformed parent (spare me the favorite "stuff") is no reason to comprimise ANY ONES safety!
I know a lot about the political junk that goes on in a PTO- BUT an order from the city, fire marshall, whatever it takes- will either help or (I'm sorry to say this) it will be that one parent that will look really stupid AND NEVER TAKE THE HEAT from the uncomfortable parents and students. There HAS to be a medium here...you can't be the only logicaly thinking parent in the bunch! Keep us informed!!
May the force be with you on this one!!!

We had our spring carnival one year and it rained, so we were forced to use the halls. The cakewalk and food were in the multi purpose room, but the other booths were either in the halls or in the doorways of the classrooms. We used the doorway as the entrance to the game and only used a little of the classroom. There was a table set up right inside, so the contestant could stand in the doorway and toss a ring or whatever onto a bottle on the table (or whatever the booth was) Most of the classroom was not used or disturbed and it kept some of the traffic out of the halls. The main hall is a little wider so we could have a few booths in them without too much congestion. Good luck.

It's a fair amount of politics. The principal supported using the classrooms but the teachers and the parent member started a major stir because she (the parent member) wants to be the favored substitute teacher. Our teachers pick their subs. It's a shame but we still want the carnival event to be sucessful. The principal now says because this member caused the confusion we will have to live with the results. I don't think Fire safety is a concern. In addition, most of the halls have doors on both ends and we will try not to block exits. Do you ever have issues like this? Our group has lots of turmoil because there is a group that basically rules and does not want new people involved. They rule because they are at the school everyday and can undermine whatever is done at meetings. Even votes and direct orders from the principle don't seem to help. But that is what we have to work with. The kids are the focus for our sub-team so we are trying to make the best of it and have really fun games in the limited space.

We are holding our 52 Annual Winter Carnival this year, and we alwyas use the classrooms...the Fire Marshall would shut us down if we tried to cram all the people into the halls. Granted the teachers aren't real thrilled about us using their rooms but they understand it is for the betterment of the school. we typically use a company to rent the majority of our games...we also have a "kiddie land" for kids 2nd grade and younger and the traditional cake walk. I'm just curious about the first post...

Because a member of the parent group told all the teachers the rooms would not be used. We do not have much time. Please help!

Can't you explain to them that the statement was made in error and that it is a fire hazard to cram all those people into the hall? Ultimatley it should be the principal who decides what happens in all areas of the school not the teachers....

The Gym and Cafeteria are being used for food and a talent show. With over 1000 people in the halls that are really designed for 500 kids (with coats, prizes and etc.) It's a big traffic jam. I really like the game ideas. Thank you. More game suggestions would be appreciated.
