Teacher survey?????

CC Mom,

I would love a copy of your teacher appreciation survey. I am the President of our newly formed Family School Association. We have many great ideas, just hoping for the volunteers to pull it off. Thanks.

At the beginning of each school year we ask the teachers to submit their "wish list" as well as a "have to have list. Once received we review each and help as much as possible - when we're not sure what is the most pressing we have the teachers decide as a group during their faculty senate meetings. We're not always able to help as much as we'd like to but it sends the message to the faculty that we have their best interests at heart.

I don't think that this survey made more teachers come to our meetings but maybe made them realize we were there and wanted their support. In the end, we have teachers sign up to help with activites and to be on the PTO committee and if all of the signing up is done at the beginning of the year, they don't feel like they are always being asked to help. This also gives us a few committed staff members for our group which is small anyway and it allows us to move at a faster pace than when there are a bunch of new people everytime.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
