Question...

Our schools also have dress-down day on Fridays but for a dollar...it's more of a hat day or p.j. day along with the students to raise funds for a sick student/teacher. But some do wear jeans everyday. Why does it matter? For field trips...whoever heard of dressing up for a field trip. Comfort is a must. I've gone on plenty of field trips with my sons and everyone dressed for comfort and the weather.

We lost a 38 year old teacher suddenly to a heart attack two years ago. Our staff wears jeans on Fridays ifthey donate $5 to the Heart Association in her honor. To my knowledge no one has made a big deal about it. I think it's a lovely tribute and it has raised a lot of money.

At my son's last school teachers wore jeans on "Blue & White" spirit days and certain special occasions. They otherwise had a comfortable but professional dress code to follow.

At his new school, I was surprised to see teacher wearing jeans every day. They were neat, clean and adult looking but still. I asked my son, "How do you know the teachers from the students if everyone is dressed the same?" He said, "Well, the teacher is the one standing at the front of the classroom telling you what to do." OK. Clearly they manage to get across who's in charge and get the respect they deserve.

Sometimes people just get uptight when they see something different from what they're used to.

it all depends on the total image , if it still looks professional, then its not a problem imo. the problem is when it gets out of hand....teachers wearing sleevless, skintight tops, wedge shoes, rhinestones words on tshirts,,,,,those same teachers complain they arent getting respect from their students, well some teachers forget they are role models and what you wear does matter. just common sense stuff, no tux or skirts and blazers required.

Our school also has dress down Friday and the money goes to the Cancer society. I don't see where it is a big thing when it is only one day a week, or even if it isn't. In our district there is infact a dress code for our teachers and for the most part it is inforced. This person needs to lighten up...oh my gosh a teacher wearing jeans on a field trip, must be their tux was at the cleaners!

Our staff wears what they want whenever (be it jeans, capri's etc). We have a pretty laid back dress code and I personally don't have a problem with it! What does it matter what they are wearing, as long as they are dressed decent (ie: not ratty or trashy)? They are there to teach - not a fashion show. I know our teachers are there from 8am until at least 4:30 every day. They are up and down staries and hallways, bending, kneeling etc.
I have a very laid back oppinion about this and feel that they should "dress down" whenever they want.
