Our school did something like the penny drive around book fair time...teachers placed a jar in their rooms and invited students to fill it up with pennies...at the end of the week, the teachers used that money towards books for the classroom. Several of our teachers did very well and ended up with lots of new books!

Last year our school was raising fund for a new playground. We held a "Pennies for Playground" campaign and to our surprise brought in close to $2000.00. We did it for 3 weeks and had each class compete as to who's class could bring in the most pounds. We weighed it every week and the winning class won a pizza party which was donated. It was no cost to us, work was weighing it each week and the reward was awesome. You wouldn't believe how receptive the parents were. It was so amazing how a little here and a little there could really add up. We are thinking of doing it again this year just to purchase playground toys and equipment.

I was just thinking about doing a penny drive. But, not really sure where to begin. I'd be very interested in all of your ideas, too. I notice that when we ask our parents for less, they help a lot more!

An idea that I had pop in my head that I am going to approach our schoool with is having buckets around the school for anyone that would like to toss their pennies in to use towards funds needed for special projects. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
