There is another way to do the teachers half-price thing that is different than what you described. I'm not sure which way GAO is doing at the school referenced above, but it should be mentioned in fairness.
Yes, one possibility is that the teachers can buy for half-price ($10 item for $5) and GAO still gets the same $5 they would get in the 50% profit scenario.
More likely, I suspect, is a system where school/group figures all what they sold and for how much they received in $$ and then remits 50% to GAO. In that case, both the group and GAO would be funding the teacher discount. GAO would get $2.50 and group would get $2.50 (rather than $5 and $5). And that would be a fair arrangement in keeping with the spirit of the profit split and the goal of incentivizing teachers.
I know (and most of our readers know) that there are fundraising reps and fundraising companies who will use slick tricks to gain at schools' expense. But you seem to imply that all act that way. And I know that's not true.

Sorry you feel that way. I just think it is wrong for a company to get up in front of group and tell them that all their teachers can buy their products at 50% off. Why don't they just tell the school that the school is still paying for the items, but you will not make any profits on those purchases. Is that being negative? I have been around fund raising companies for close to 25 years and some of these reps will tell you anything and everything to get a sale.
Funny, I never knew that the parent company of Great American Opportunities was a "Christian Company". They are a huge publishing company with over 20 divisions that make millions of dollars a year. Every fund raising I know that operates in this country is also a Christian company. I just do not get the connection.
Excuse me middle age dad, but if you are so negative about fundraising companys then just go do an auction or carnival where you have to recruit a bazillion volunteers to put in a bazillion hours of their time to make about the same amount of money. geez
This is not about GAO, but I noticed that someone said that their teachers got
50% off their orders. I hate to tell anyone, but big deal---the company did not give you any discount. If an item cost $10 and your profit is 50%, then the cost to the school is $5.00. That is what the company charged you. You just did not make any money on the teachers. The company made the same amount of money off the teachers as they did when your next door neighbor bout something at full retail.
Hummm... Funny, my rep from great american said they had a lot of items from giftco and are working on getting the items from other vendors. I think there may be some reps on this thread
Great American Opportunities is a great company to work with having said that. The company is only as good as your sales rep. If you had a negative experience it was the sales rep, and not the company. Great American was not affected by the closing of Giftco. They buy 95% of there products directly from the manufacture, cutting out the middle mad. Giftco in this case
