I think that a combo of presenting teacher items as live auction and raffle items is the way to go. Yes, the deepest pockets (or those who go temporarily insane) will pay really big money for a teacher experience. Let them. Big ticket items are the best way to boost profits. Conversely, fairness is as important. Raffling a few of the teacher "experiences" will allow for such.

We have done these too from a silly science lab party, magical birthday where the teacher has planned a theamed party, a pool party/cook out, canoeing trip, biking trip, movie night, a gym night for a grade... to a special shopping trip for a special dance... the key seems to find what the teache likes to do and capitalise on it, if crafts are a specialty great, creative writting, whatever makes them happy. Sometimes we get tickets to collage games and a teacher will take kds to that...it should be fun for everyone.

We do this at our auction, too; it's a big hit. I bought a "trip to Plaster Fun Time with Mrs. X" for my kids.

One thing we did have a little problem with: one teacher offered babysitting, a couple families apparently went together to bid -- and the teacher ended up with more kids to watch than she'd planned. So, make the description clear.

We did this at our auction for the first time this past February. It was a HUGE hit. Our kindergarten teacher volunteered to meet a child and parent at our Zoo with her 2 year old. Our 1st grade teacher went to a childs house with hot cocoa and a new book for them to keep and read them a bedtime story...2 families ended up paying $250 for this. One teacher took 2 girls shopping and got Starbucks ( not coffee) and a new book from Barnes and Noble. One teacher took 4 kids bowling. One took kids to a movie. One took them to a baseball game. One provided a stargazing party with a large telescope. A group of 3 did a mother/daughter tea and another group had 2 kids come to their house to bake chocolate chip cookies. We also did the principal for 1/2 a day and that way we could sell 2 spots. The other thing we auctioned was a kick-ball game against the teachers. We had 12 spots at $25 each. The first people to sign up at the auction table got a spot for their kid to play against the teacher team. We had them wear matching school shirts and the teachers had healthy snacks for after the game. This was so much fun to watch. Hope this helps !

We do this every year. Here are some of the things teachers do:

1. Library Night: Two teachers keep the kids in the library for 4 hours, parent coordinates with teacher for date (she limits it to Fridays); it's for up to 4 kids, between K and 4th grade. She provides pizza and ice cream, and the kids do an activity, eat, and then watch a movie. (I bought that one this year, our friends all went out that night while our kids were entertained).

2. Day at the beach: 2 teachers take a limited number of kids to the beach, again for 2-3 hours.

3. Rollerskating: Same as above.

4. Spanish teacher auctions off private lessons.

5. Math teacher could auction off tutoring, one hour a week for four weeks.

Last year I asked just 1 teacher to donate her time - the librarian offered to auction off 1 snack time with her (she provided the snack) to discuss books and anything else with the winning bidder/student. It was a big hit and this year we're ready to try it with more teachers.

I made a certificate for it to be displayed alongside the other auction items and this year I'll be doing that along with a photo of the teacher.
