We have done this as a Silent Auction every year. I have also "purchased" the teacher event each year for my son. I don't consider our family as part of the "rich" families; however, I do save each month in order to purchase this special day for my son. Most of our teacher "dates" go for $100-$150. The "date" with the principal is usually done in the live auction and brings anywhere form $600-$800.

As a teacher, I donate time with myself at Puzzles Fun Dome. They also get to bring a friend. It is a place with bouncy activities, putt-putt, glow in the dark basketball, etc. I make the requirement that parents have to meet me there and pick up the child there. We stay for 2 hours and this usually gives the parent a couple of hours of free babysitting. I haven't had any issues with a student being hurt there, though I'm sure the place carries insurance. After thinking about it, I'll make a waiver for myself for the parent to sign before leaving their child with me stating they will not hold me responsible.

Just out of curiosity - what is the liability involved with this? What if the teacher gets into an accident, or something happens to the kid.

Otherwise I think it's a great idea.

Our teachers also donated their time for our silent auction. They however are doubling up with another teacher. In this day and time they felt it neccessary to be with another adult, to protect themselves.

Last year at our Carnival and Silent Auction we also had the teacher's donate items, most of them donating lunch with student & friend, movie... Anyway, it became apparent to us this year as we were going over the sheets from last year that the families with the money were the ones who won the teacher items, so this year we are doing the teacher items as a raffle, our intention being to make it more fair for the students of lower income to have a chance at winning the teacher items. I did do certificates last year that explained the item the teacher was donating, but did not use a picture. Hope I've helped.

We are gearing up for our annual Spring Fun Fair and Silent Auction (held on the same night). This year we are doing something new. Teachers, on a voluntary basis, are donating their time for the auction. Such as one teacher is offering to take a student and friend of choice to a museum and a picnic lunch. The teachers are coming up with their own ideas of what they will do. Anyone else ever try this? Any suggestions on how to present it at the auction? I thought I'd print out some certificates and perhaps place a picture of the teacher with their certificate.
