Have you tried a bowl-a-thon? You could kill two birds with one stone. You could have a family nite a your local bowling alley, complete with food and fun,(ticket price covers cost of event and food) and at the same time, you could have a great fund-raiser! Each child could have family and friends donate 5 cents (for example) for every pin knocked down. You can have each person play 3 - 4 games. Alot of bowling alleys offer great discount for big groups.

We are trying to create a Spanishathon this year. Much like a mathathon, but the questions pertain to spanish. Our school provides extra Spanish intstruction as a focus.

We do a math-a-thon. The students have a test of 100 problems based on their grade level and they get sponsors for a flat fee or so much for each problem that's correct. PTO grades the tests so the teachers only have to administer the tests. We give the teachers a week so they can work it into their lesson plan. Very little costs with this and for our first one, we raised about $2000. We are a small school of only 275 students K-5 and felt this was a great return!

What about a Read-A-Thon. Not only does it help your kids but you can raise money too. Each child gets sponsors to pay them a quarter (or whatever amount you specify) for each book read in a specified time frame. Kids get excited about reading... that's a great perk! :D

Our school has done a Jog-a-thon for years and we're all sick of it. Even the kids are bored with the idea. Has anyone done any other types of "thons" that were fun and successful? We need some new ideas!!! Thanks.
