Hello - I would love to receive info. on the Mathathon.

We had a pretty successful read a thon last year that I put together in less than 2 weeks. We held at the same time as a Read Across America event in February and tied it all up neatly with a Dr. Seuss Day.

If you would like copies of my forms and letters send me an email.

Not an A-thon - but this has become pretty popular. It is referred to in our school as the Wildcat challenge, but it could be any name. Basically, students take pledges for correct answers on a knowledge quiz (or a flat donation.) Students have grade level appropriate questions that are asked of them - and the parents receive these questions prior to the day. The students take the quiz (written) during a period in the day as a group in the gym. In a 150 child school, this fundraiser has grown to an $8,000 event. (Students do receive a tshirt that is sponsored by local businesses.)

I sent home a survey and asked parents what they wanted and did not want for fundraising.
NOT List: no catalog or candle sales.
The big one was the walk a thon. Occurs during school hrs and is coordinated with the gym teacher and every grade with teachers comes out and walks around the school 3 times. It did not effect parents after school and we made 8000.00!
This year we are offering a Nano Ipod to the person who brings in the most sponsors and money.
Plus, the classroom with the highest participation gets an ice cream party.
Parents love it!
