Old President won't go away!

17 years 6 months ago #105015 by my3strongtikes
At the events have her selling the tickets, handing out things so she's dealing with people which is what she seems to like doing but she won't keep jumping in the spotlight.

Your always going to have people like this whether its a board member or a parent volunteer. Work with the strengths she has. Also talk to the principal and tell her that the current pres will be making all the decisions and speeches. Same with letters or monies being spent the principal should say right that she need the presidents approval on it first.

Good Luck

Thanks, I appreciate your sugestions. Sounds like this is not an uncommon problem!

I am trying to think of a job for her that will not interfere with our desire to pare down the excess. What she wants to do is act as our Hospitality Chair, but she has caused so many problems by going overboard on gifts, that's not going to work. (This is the person who organizes our staff appreciation events throughout the year.) She would probably also take over the Yearbook, but then her kids would be on every page again. I am trying to come up with something for her where she can't overspend or overwhelm. Suggestions?

Musical: Jekyll & Hyde
Song: Letting Go

SIR DANVERS:
Emma, don't you understand!
It's you I am concerned for.

EMMA:
Father, don't be!
You should be concerned for him!
He's the one in need!

SIR DANVERS:
I am only trying to protect you!
What else would you have your father do?
I think I would die,
If any harm should come to you.

I'm scared, my child,
Because I'm going to lose you.
I find it very hard,
To let you go!

EMMA:
Father,
If you try to,
You could never lose me!

Darling father,
I still love you,
More than you will ever know!
But if we want our love to grow -

SIR DANVERS:
I know, in time, I have to let you go.

EMMA & SIR DANVERS:
We mustn't be afraid of letting go...

Get this to play while working on events ;)

Find this person a job to do - maybe follow up reports or chairperson planners (i.e Guide for next years chair of whatever event) Then she can reminise all she wants while gathering info from others

Give her a visible job - chairing a committee or something. she needs a task, channel her energies thru a poisitive way.. ask her what area she would like to work in.
School is about learning to work together, and you will ALWAYS have difficult people in your midst to deal with, find a win win solution.
If all else fails, have your principal talk to this person one on one. Its about manageing volunteers, this issue, and the principals job includes manageing volunteers.
