Valid Nomination?

In our bylaws are directions to form a nominating committee. These people choose one candidate for our elected officers and report to the assembly. We vote on the "slate" at the next meeting. We do take nominations from the floor at that time but typically there are none from the floor. If there is another nomination from the floor a ballot vote is taken. But again, the assembly usually votes with the selection of the nominating committee.

I am reading page 430 in RRO and mantbe a petition could be done by you and other members that feel the same way you do to remove this person from the nominations. Gosh, I'm finishing up my two year term and am dieing to move on! Or let her run, make sure you have a strong write in canidate and out vote her by a write in canidate. If you have a term limit she should not be able to serve four straight years in the same office. Right? Something smells funny with this whole nomination......Keep us informed!

In our by-laws it states that to be an officer you must either have a child in the building or work in the building. I'm real surprised someone would want to commit to a school for two more years when they don't have a child there...It might be mean to say but at that point this person needs to get a life out side of school...perhaps a job. On the other hand is there no other people who want the position? If their is maybe someone could talk to the lady and kindly tell her that there happens to be someone else that would like to give her position a try and that it would only be fair since this person has a child at the school. I don't think Robert's Rules come into play in this case...You would have to check your organization's bylaws...and if there is nothing in there concerning this issue there should be from this point on...Good Luck...I know how hard it is to deal with people who have put their heart in to something and don't want to let go........

One of our Co-Presidents term is expiring. She started her two year term when her child was in the last year of elementary school. She stayed on this year, even though she has no children in this school, to fulfill her term. She has filled out a nomination to be re-elected to the position of Co-President, for another two year term (She will not have any children in our school in the next two years, either.). I along with others feel that you should actually be a teacher, or parent of a student in our school to be a member or officer of our PTO. Our meetings and by-laws are fashioned after Roberts Rules of Order. Does anyone have any knowledge of any documentation that we could refer to, to determine if she is an elligible candidate? Thanks for any help!
