Our principal has made a policy that no parents are allowed to attend class field trips. This year the school wants to take the entire 5th grade to Huntsville, Alabama to Space Camp. Parent's are outraged that the school wants to take the kids out of state for several days without any parents. Parents have approached me to get advice as to go about having this policy changed. I suggested the 5th grade parents work together to take this problem to the school board. The principal will not even discuss the issue with the parents. Do any of you have any other ideas how to go about changing this old out of date policy? It is unfortunate the principal feels parents should have a very limited role in the school. I have checked with all the schools in our area and not another one prevents parents from going on field trips. I took the issue to the board last year, but no changes came about.
