Thank you for posting this! A few things...

Pink shirts www.standupday.com. LOVE LOVE LOVE these shirts - I ordered one for myself and my daughter. Check their site out - you have to sign the back of your shirt before wearing them! They send a very powerful message without you having to say a literal word.

If you don't mind my asking, what was the cost of Rachel's program? Our district is implementing the Olweus Bully Prevention Program over the next two years. I know nothing of this program and wondering if others have heard of it or used it and what they think.

Also, does your PTO pay for these programs either in full or part? Fundraise for them?

Our school district is using the program

www.rachelschallenge.org/

It has been very successful and touched alot of our students and the programs that go along with it have been very successufl.
Each of the PTO's Primary, Intermediate, Middle School and High School each chipped in. The program is nice because it gears the programs to the students age levels and bullying issues.
The only negative I had with it was the cost it wasn't a cheap program, but so far I would say it has touched alot of our students and staff.

Bullying is becoming a very scary thing for kids today. At our school (preK - 5) the principal implemented a very direct program last year to teach children how to identify bullying, what to do if you see someone being bullied, and to let an adult know if you are being bullied or you see someone being bullied. There was a poster contest and all participants received a certificate and 3 "winners" received a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble sponsored by the PTO. Also all children signed a laminated Pledge card that reinforced the antibullying policy at the school.

I just came here wondering if PTOs were getting involved in anti-bullying campaigns or awareness with all of these stories hitting the news weekly.

It seems like this problem has grown to a really scary level. When I was a kid, a few kids might get teased for various reasons, but this just wasn't happening on the level that it is now.

Is that date a regional thing? I can't seem to find any information on it. All the "pink shirt day" info I can find is saying it was earlier in 2010. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month and people wearing pink all month, it seems kind of odd that they would pick a day in October for that.
