80's themed family night

Star Wars (the real ones!), The Goonies, The Brat Pack. Sigh. I am having so much fun with this.

I didn't let my hair grow out until 89 (I was a big tom boy) but I loved those Banana clips and using about pony tail holders down my hair. There was also the roach clip phase. I was to naive to know what they were really used for. Me and my friends just thought they were cool hair pieces.

I had a very cool blue and white Western flyer with a banana seat, a basket, and a horn.

My skates were blue with red and white strips. I think they still fit.

Boy couldn't Kasey Kasem count them down? "Keep your feet and the ground and keep reaching for the stars." Isn't that what he said?

No it was definately early eighties. I have a picture of me wearing it in 1982 on a vacation to Canada.
Oh Shaun Cassidy was a cutie wasn't he? I had a poster of him next to a poster of a very hip looking Jesus (I got it in relation to the Davey and Goliath cartoon I think)

One of my favorite cartoons though was CAPTAIIIN CAAAAAAVE man!

The new Strawberry Shortcake is stupid. Kinda like the new Weeble Wobbles (okay, so I could have choked on the old ones being so small but I DIDN'T!)
Our prom dresses were two toned, mini with lots of ruffles. That was the going fad here in the later 80's. And don't forget those darn uncomfortable spiked heels.

As for Barbie, I thought I had been good in "saving" them until I got them out of storage. No, Barbie does not look good with Pat Benatar's shag haircut and no, it doesn't grow back. Additionally, markers don't make good make-up. Yeah, my dolls look all punk rock except for my Farah Fawcett and Lee Major's dolls (they were grandma and grandpa because they were so much bigger than Barbie and looked so much older-like 30! LOL!) I lost the Barbie Bronco but I still have the corvette!

As for additional treasures- I have some Snorks t-shirts that I bought for my Cabbage patch kids, a Gizmo nightgown (ya know, Gremlins) and an ET TV tray among various other little things. The hot wheels I owned belonged to my brother in the 1960's- they got lost too (my mom moved and we both falsely thought our stuff was safe, should have known better when she sold my weeble wobbles at a garage sale while I was in HS)

My dad would get me up at 7:00 a.m. every Saturday so I could watch the "Smurf's" and "Shirt Tales." Kids today, they just don't know how good they have it.

Tell me about it! It was time to go out and play on Saturday morning when Soul Train came on and you just knew if you stayed inside long enough, Marcus Welby would be on and that was the WORST!! Cartoons in the morning for an hour or so and an hour or two after school. No cartoon network, Disney and even when we did get Nickelodeon it only seemed to be on in the mornings...

Now that I think about it, we're the ones who had it good. I played so many games, rode my bike, rollerskated to Blondie all outside in my neighborhood and now my son acts as though it's a punishment when I tell him to go outside and play...

I forgot about the pom-poms on the roller skates! I had metal skates when I was littler and getting those beautiful white boots with the pink pom poms! That was the best birthday ever.

I had a few friends who had rainbow suspenders like Mork (did I say that already?) too and don't forget those softball shirts that you went and had whatever you wanted ironed onto them! I was so cool in my shirt and my silk jacket with the striped, cuffed sleeves! That is just too funny!! I see those god awful jackets in thrift shops now and you know what, no one buys them! LOL!

Kim== Walmart sells those video games that just plug into the front of the TV. They have the Pac Man one. They're around $19. My boys love playing Pac Man... better than them playing those crappy games. You could have a Pac Man station if you can't find an Atari. I still have mine with that mat thing you can jump on.

I will have to dig out my middle school year books now. Ya'll have me reminicng so much. I am sure it would be very entertaining for my boys. LOL!

Strawberry Shortcake is back. The new stuff is just generic. I'm not pleased with it. I tried to get my youngest to be her for Halloween, he is still made at me. Ha Ha. You do see the orignal every now and then. Goody's had something with the original on it, I was so tempted to buy it!

I liked the Master's of the Universe too. Back then we could bring toys to school. I would play with the boys neat figures. Of course they always wanted me to be She-ra.

I still have Western Barbie and Ken along with their horses. Dallas and Midnight. I am trying to get my siblings together to clean out my parents' attic. No telling what kind of gems we could find. All my Barbie's and hot wheels are up there no doubt. Ha Ha. I also had stompers, transformers, and go-bots. I have a big monster truck that has claws that comes out of the tires my boys might play with. Those went through a phase too. They play with my Pac-Man game now. I definately had Pac-Man fever.

They found one of my "Shirt Tales" coloring books. My dad would get me up at 7:00 a.m. every Saturday so I could watch the "Smurf's" and "Shirt Tales." Kids today, they just don't know how good they have it.

Remember getting those puffy things for your roller skates? Pom Poms I think they were called. Hey Kim, if you have a good spot you could have a roller derby. We actually had a skating rink in town in the 80s. Now we have to go over 40 miles to the nearest one.

Wished I had me a swig of that "New Coke."
