80's themed family night

I can't believe I almost forgot -- Don Johnson in Miami Vice! The white jacket and cool shoes w/no socks. There was a fashion statement. Better yet was Tom Selleck as Magnum PI in his tight little shorts and red Ferrari. And I had forgotten about "mall bangs." If you sprayed hairspray while blowing with the hair dryer, you could get some BIG hair. Maybe you could have a PacMan tournament . . . parents who remember the pattern will beat the kids at a video game for once. For decorations, make centerpieces out of all your old 8-track tapes. The kids that don't laugh hysterically at them win prizes.

I have an atari.

Sigh. Hackey Saks. My kids have some of those. They have no idea what you do with them. I tried to explain. I never was able to do it.

You could have a fortune telling room with an 8 ball.

Notice how all this 80s stuff is coming back? That should tell someone what a great decade that was. My mom never did let me have any parachute pants. Oh well. I did finally get my Nikes though. After I out grew my Strawberry Shortcake shoes.

In the early 80s my sister had friendship pins. They were safety pins with beads on them. When I was about 14 my friendship bracelets made from embroidery thread were stiff from all the hair spray. Boy could I tease those bangs. ;)

If I remember correctly, Hackey Sack was gaining popularity in the mid '80s . . . I remember watching one group of guys in particular playing it outside the dorms. (sigh) Anyway, it would be an activity that wouldn't be totally foreign to the kids.

Oh my...

Class of '87 here, and I had forgotten so much of this stuff. I think the 80's has to be one of the worst fashion decades ever! Hmmmm...maybe I repressed it all for a reason. :D

I have to say that I am about to fall over laughing at the memories that keep flooding in while reading this thread. And, Dirty Dancing is STILL my all time favorite movie!

There is absolutely no reason to revisit the mullet! That is one fad better left dead. :D
Those plastic bracelets made a comeback at least in our little area not too long ago. Ah, I think we missed a fad here... Prince. Everyone was so in love with him. Ruffled shirts galore. Let me think...How about "That's Incredible", 'Circus of the Stars', maybe tie in a safety presentation (Ya know, that "don't try this at home" was a good idea. Too bad it came too late for me to try a triple somersault out of my swingset and to break my arm in two places. IT looked so easy on Circus of the Stars)
Oh and I just started singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart". How about a history section- OH, different years stations- one for 1980, 1981 and so on. I'll bet you can find a lot about each individual decade. Call it a "walk through time" or something like that.

You can have cheerleading (Thanks to Mickey) pretend surfer stations (Spicoli and Fast times) and I can't believe I forgot Olivia Newton-John!! My friends and I jazzercized our little hearts out to "Let's Get Physical" (we had no idea what that really meant!!)

You could have a hacky sack game going on too.

I think I may want to come too though. I'm having a lot of fun revisiting my youth!
