This past year, we did a Grandparent's Tea and had tea/coffee and cookies.

At my last school they had "Grandparents Lunch". The school hosted it Wednesdays over a five week period for k-4th grade. Week One-Kindergarten, Week Two-1st Grade, etc... Notes were sent home with the students for grandparents to RSVP and say if they would order a school lunch or bring their own. The note said in lieu of grandparents, parents, friends, neighbors or such were welcome. Almost every student had a guest join them for lunch - many of them grandparents.

When my sister was little her class did a project similar to one WFS mentions. Each student was assigned a pen pal from a local Senior Center. My sister developed a very strong bond with hers that lasted into adulthood.

Replied by WFS on topic RE: Grandparent's Day Ideas
Have grandparents come in to read to students

Have children write a special something about their grandparent (those still with us or those that aren't)

Have students write a letter and send them to a retirement/nursing home to cheer up the residents that often don't have visitors

Create an "adopt a grandparent" program where students write letters to those in a home. Your school's chorus or band can also go there to "entertain" the patients.

Making a positive difference one project at a time <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>
