Our church does this on Halloween along with a fun festival for neighborhood kids. We have free food (hot dogs usually, since we expect 350 kids) and blow up's in our ministry center gym. We do no scary or morbid themes at all, but some of the cutest I have seen are......Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz complete with the cowardly lion, tin man and scare crow. You could use as many characters as you had people to do. I have done a zoo theme just because I had so many stuffed animals and things. I dressed up like a pig. You can also do Old Mcdonalds farm....they all know that one or Charlottes Web. You cold also do something like Highschool Musical or Dora the Explorer. I like your Hollywood Idea. Oh, Yeah.......Pirates of the Caribbean. I have also seen Moses in the bullrushes complete with baby Moses. I'm from South Carolina so we always have team sport, for our state it is usually Clemson Tigers, Carolina Game Cocks or Carolina Panthers. It could even be the school mascot theme complete with colors, flags etc......By the way I'm looking for a unique idea myself..that's how I found this site. Good Luck and I know you will do a great job.

You all are coming up with great ideas. I broached this subject at our first meeting last week and it was responded luke warmly. I really like it especially since an area church has one. I could get all my son's trick or treating done in two stops plus grandma's. All the parents I've talked with about this like the idea, maybe not the trunk decorating but I think that could catch on.
As far as you doing your trunk, I say "Hooray for Hollywood!"
Too often, just because we are so involved, I think that others don't realize our sacrifices, and our children's, with these family events. Why should our families not be able to be involved? You're not judging, so it would be fair. JMHO.
P.S.Love your color! :)

Thanks for your posts. I am having a dilema. We have received about 25 cars and over 100 treaters so far, so I am very happy about that! We are awarding prizes for scariest, funniest, most creative and best overall trunks. I think we will be giving mums, we have our PTO meeting tomorrow to finalize things. A few people gave me a little "friction" when I was talking this event up on the playground. I was asking who was coming and talking about trunks and I was telling them what I was planning on doing with mine. They were like YOU ARE PARTICIPATING? I was like, yeah why? Just because I am running the event with my co - chair, why cant we have trunks to hand out candy to the kids too? Do you think it isnt fair to have our trunks in to be judged? All of the parents do the judging so what should it matter if the 2 of us have our cars in the contest? I am spending alot of time designing a great themed trunk. HELP!

One ballot box is best. It's less running around as well to collect them all.

Scarecrows, great idea! I love your themes, too! Keep em coming :) I am still developing my HOLLYWOOD trunk idea.
Now I have another question. We will be awarding prizes, scariest, funniest, most creative, best all around. Should we give each parent a slip of paper with 4 lines to write in thier favorite trunks (each trunk will be numbered) and drop it in one box at the check in/check out table....or let them drop a slip in at the trunk they like, every trunk has a box? I think the first because you dont want people to feel badly if no one drops the paper in thier box, right?
