Trunk or Treating

Now I understand. How about
Spongebob's Bikini Bottom w/ all characters and places in the cartoon
Priates of the Carribean with family members dressed as pirates and the truck simulating a booty of gold, swords, skulls, etc.
Souvenier haven - take out every item in your home that you've purchased while on vacation or day trips and display it to show where've you spent time and money! could be really funny. Family members can dress as nerdy tourists.
Music to your ears with music blasting, instruments in the trunk, musical notes strung in and out of the trunk of the car and family members dressed as famous musicians (gotta have an Elvis!)

You could tie this in to a scarecrow making day as well. for families that are not as creative to make a trunk, but would love to participate, they could sign up to create a family scarecrow that will be displayed in front of the school, they too would get an area for the trick or treating part of the day. That way you could involve more families.

Yes, that's the idea! We invite the entire school to bring thier cars up to school, backed into parking lots and open up thier decortated trunks. I would love for teachers to get involved and do class/grade trunks but, unfortunately we have little to no teacher support in our PTO efforts. I have never been to one, but as a party planner, I am very THEME-y. I just wasnt sure if they were going to be more on the halloween side, like the one poster who had the graveyard scene, or more like the pirate ship, western etc. I have one idea Id love to try - but am not sure. Cut out letters like the HOLYLWOOD sign, Cut out a skyline, then drape a red fabric carpet in and coming out of the trunk and I can just wear a long black dress and a mink or a featehr boa, kinda like hollywood red carpet event. I also have strobe lights I could use for flashes from paparazzi. Not sure how that is all going to come togehter though. The entire school is also then invite to trick (trunk) or treat from car to car. Everyone needs to pre-register so we know how many cars and partictpants and they get a PUMPKIN PASS they need to wear and place in their car. We will also judge the trunks on scariest, funniest, most creative and best overall. Anyone else, all ideas appreciated!:)

When I participated in one it was held at the YMCA. There were between 10 and 20 vehicles backed into parking spaces. The trunks were open and decorated for halloween. Some people also decorated their entire vehicles, as we did.

We had skeletons in the front seat with plastic cell phones taped to their hands. The bed of our truck was decorated like a graveyard with tombstones and skulls and lots of moss and plastic bugs. One of the tombstones said "In heavy traffic he'd never postpone a single call on his cell phone, so listen closely and I vow he's still asking "Can you hear me now?"

It was just a humorous, but morbid take on all the people that talk on their cell phones while driving.

Since this is at a school I would think more light hearted, kind friendly themes would be more appropriate. You could do a ship, but dress as pirates (not sure too many little kids know what Gilligans Island is anymore!). Do a spaceship and the people dress like aliens, do a laboratory and dress like a mad scientist. The possibilities are endless! It just helps if the involved parents are a little creative and resourceful. I spent 2 days beforehand cutting and painting fake gravestones.

Good luck!

I'm not quite understanding the concept. Does each classroom decorate a trunk or is this done by the PTO just in certain areas around the school?

We couldn't do this since we have a strict nutrional policy in our school, but the concept sounds interesting for other things. I'd like more details.

Hey Everyone! Welcome Back to School!
Our school has just been given the OK to host a Trunk or Treating Event this year for Halloween. Does anyone have any unique ideas for trunk decorations? A few other schools in our township do this and I have gotten alot of input, but our school never has and alot of the parents arent "getting" the idea of decorating your trunk and passing out candy to the kids. One of the best ideas I have heard so far was decorate the trunk like a shipwreck and have you and your friends or the kids dress up like Ginger, Gilligan, the Skipper etc. So, if any of you have done this before, gone to any or just have your own ideas on how to decorate a trunk I would appreciate it. Thanks! ~cherry
