Opps, sorry Shawn and others, I should have included the dads that stay at home also.

Your posts made me giggle. When I had my last child, I wanted to stay home sooooooo much. I did everything, cut ins. cut cable to just the basics, tried to convince my employer that I could work PT in the p.m. and weekends, etc. No luck. My husband came up with the idea that he would stay home since I make more than he does. Well, that still didn't work as far as $$ money goes.

A few months after going back to work I had to have a medical procedure done and was flat on my back for several weeks. He finally admited that there was no way that he could stay at home and do all the things that needed to be done, running erands, after school activities, etc. Even though I do them and work FT. I think he gained a new respect for SHAMs and mothers that work outside of the home.

From the SHAMS that I've talked to, I give them all the credit that they deserve. They probably work harder than I do.

SJmom,
I hear you!! I've been a SAHM for quite a few years and would agree that it's a FULL time job. The past year and half I have worked here and there part time and felt the pressure of "keeping up". I'm already busy planning and organizing committee folders for our events. This has never been done, since I've been around anyways. The pres. has took all the responsibility. That's something I want to change this year. Yeah, I'm sure I'll still feel guilty, but I won't be exhausted and burnt out by Christmas. :D

First of all, (AHEM) we ALL work!
I have worked FT outside the home and served as a PTO co-president. Now I am a SAHM PTO president. I feel I handle my responsibilities well. I do not attend every single function, but I do work with our board to make sure we are represented. Guilt is part of being a parent, so I reduce my guilt with real healthy rationalization. I would do PTO pres/officer again.
I think planning ahead is the best way to include all those who really want to be involved.

Well, I've been asked to hang in for a 2nd year. I caved and said I would. Now, it's up to the nominating committee. If I'm not slated for the position that's as far as I will go. I think with some more organization and alot of planning and preparing everything will be ok. Just nervous about not having as much time as I did this year. But, yeah, I can see how you've all managed to make it work. We'll see how elections go.

and fix this country properly, its the Greatest country in the world but we could do so much more for education, families, military if we just cut out all the crap (privatize Soc Sec, pay teachers better, fix schools, actually educate our children) and on and on- I could too ;)
