Maybe we could get the PTA/PTO's together and lobby for paid maternity leave (even though I'm male- it bites as it currently is Legislated and 40 hrs per year paid volunteer time- as the legislation stands now it also stinks)

ptohyeah,

Here are a lot of great examples of how any parent can make it work being involved in their school's organization. I'm a single mom and I have to work. I have these bad habits food, shelter, car... LOL.

I've met a lot of women in my life who use their children as an excuse and probably use work as an excuse when it is convenient for them to get out of doing something. I'm the type of person who makes a commitment and than follows through with it. This past year every time I came to a day meeting the Pres would tell me that she doesn't expect me to come to any of the day meetings! Really, who was she to tell me that!

My mother was an officer in the PTA when I was a kid, and I wanted to show my daughter, how important I think her school is. I want her to know that service to the community is something we cn all do.

WOW!!! I commend you all for what you do!! I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. I know I will definitely have to work more than I am now next year. I am not a natural leader. I have a very hard time delegating authority. I've been accused of being "too nice" on more than one occasion. I've developed a little thicker skin after my first year. But, still I wish someone would step up and say they were interested. I've tried to back out, but you all know what "I'll do it if there's no one else" usually means. I'm all for being involved and would still be whenever I could. It just scares the bejeebies out of me to work full time and be the one responsible for it all. I am in awe of those of you who can make it work!! :D

I work 40+ hours a week, am involved in several work organizations, Brownies, and plan to run for VP this year. Do I think I can do it? I'm hoping so. I have a very flexible job so it should work. I won't be able to be at the school during the day for every event, but if I have enough notice I can make it work and did so for several events that we had. There have been times when I've had to bring work home to make up for time (shhhh) :D , but as long as it gets done, there's no problem.

When I was on the yearbook committe this year, we were a combination of SHAMS and working mothers. We met in the evenings and on the weekends, which worked perfect. I have been stressing this fact during the PTO meetings to get parents on committees.

I work fulltime+ (about 45 hours per week). I am the co-president at our school. Everyone knows that I cannot be there during school hours. My co-president can. I drop by at lunch sometimes to get the mail or whatevery. When I need to put something in the teacher boxes, I go before work when I drop off DS8 and have one of the custodians let me in the building. We use email a lot and our meetings are at night. Our principal is wonderful and just happy that we all do what we can. Our meetings are in the evening. I wouldn't change anything. I hope thatI am an example to show people that you can help is you really want to.
