halloween parties ideas

18 years 6 months ago #125794 by mykidsmom
We have our annual party at church and the most popular game is musical chairs! YES! A tried and true one at best!
If you are planning on crafts, I have learned much from anything that requires beads! A big big no! The marshmallow caracters are really popular and easy to do, Micheals and Orental Trading had a lot of this stuff.
Our kids enjoy decorating cookies, tossing games (throw the bean bag into the witches pot), pin the bone on the skeleton, ring toss game using recycled soda liter bottles, word searches using fall words etc, Tossing bones into something....sorry I'm losing steam here!

We don't usually use alot of Halloween music for the musical chairs- we also have Twister next to this for the ones waiting to play to keep the kids active- nothing worse than 10 bored kids when 5 can play twisted and the 5 five can wait and laugh at the twister game and cheer on the muscial chairs!

I hope this helps!! Have a great party!

Best resource for great Halloween party ideas that I've found---Family Fun Magazine. Check out their website or go to your local library and see if they have the issue. I subscribe and have gotten the best ideas for so many parties, crafts, and treats. I even found instructions for making jungle vines for our spring carnival last year that everyone thought were so cool.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

When I was my daughter's room mother I loved to do parties! Every party I made up a packet of things to keep the kids busy (free printables off hte internet),like word finds, picture finds, etc. I always included a craft idea they could do themselves - one of my favorite for Halloween was to use their candy wrappers decoupaged - with Elmer's glue :) onto a can to make a neat pencil tin. Could be messy, don't know how many kids to parent ratio. We also had them bring in a regualr brown grocery bag and make them into masks they could wear at hte party. Have fun!

I'm hoping this is a unique idea that you'll enjoy...
Last year, I got "BOO"ed for the first time. What is a "BOO", you may ask? "BOO" is a paper ghost with the following poem attached...

The air is cool, the season is fall,
Soon Halloween will come to all.
The spooks are after things to do,
In fact, a spook brought this to you!
“BOO” is the shield from the witching hour…
Just hang it up and watch its power!
On your front door is where it works,
It wards off spooks and scary jerks.
The treats that come with cryptic note
Are yours to keep, enjoy them both!
The power comes when friends like you
Will copy this and make just two.
Then others here among our friends
Will give warm fuzzies that will not end!
We’ll all have a smile upon our face…
No one will know who “BOO’ed whose place!
Just one short day to work your spell…
Or a big zap will strike your tail!
And don’t forget a nifty treat,
Like something cute or sweet to eat!
Please join the fun… Let’s really hear it…
And spread some “BOO”s and Halloween spirit!

The ghost and poem and a bag of treats are left on someone's doorstep. They then have one day to "BOO" two other people. As a surprise, I "BOO"ed my daughter's classroom... they then "BOO"ed 2 other classes... eventually, most of the school was "BOO"ed. The teachers seemed to enjoy it and it made a fun class project.

Hope this gives you some new ideas!
