The ULTIMATE Donation List

Has anyone gotten a CVS giftcard? I did, but they sent it as an ecard and my name is in the graphic, so I don't think a winner of this would appreciate this. I am not sure what to do now. Should I ask the store manager if I can trade it in for a plastic giftcard? Or should I just pick out something for 25 in the store to auction off?

Hello Martha,
I think Bidding for Good is kind of a hit and miss. For every yes, I have received about 5 no's. I have found it helpful to read all of the instructions on the top of every donation request form for Bidding for Good. They are all different and sometimes state exactly what they are willing to donate.

Thank to everyone who adds to this list!

Has anyone combed this thread and condensed into a list of the actual company/method or request/donation type that would benefit everyone? I am getting ready to start my 2013 solicitations for our spring event and was going to do that, but if you've already done it ... WHAT A BLESSING if you would be willing to share. Maybe there should also be a google doc or something where we can leave all the narrative out and just keep an ongoing compiled list.

Hi Martha Maryland,

We've had success obtaining large donations from our local Best Buy. You need to go to their site, answer a few questions and download their donation request form. After completing this form, you take it to your local Best Buy, give it to the manager, and follow up with a call. You will need to supply them with various information in order to receive a donation.

I wanted to share a link of photos to our Gala last year. It's always helpful for me to view photos of auctions because I learn something new every time. Just copy and paste:

Hope this helps!

I noticed Torr on pg 388 of this posting had a nice list of donations that were received . Several--like Wonderworks--are through Bidding for Good. I've never had any success in getting any donations when a company uses Bidding for Good. Any thoughts or successes on this? Do you have to actually participate in the Bidding for Good to get a donation sometimes?

As for parent donations, we've used Amazon's Wish List system to list items that we'd like to have donated. Sometimes that helps motivate parents and makes it easier on them. (Like if you're looking for a Wii or electronics).

For an IPad or Wii, we've had more luck with a family/parent donating it personally or having a classroom put together a basket that included it. Otherwise, try one of your local electronic stores--they might give you a discount.
