The past two years we've done "Bedtime Stories." It's held at the school and everything has a literacy theme. Everybody wore pajamas and had spaghetti dinner (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), had a bounce castle in the gym (Where the Wild Things Are), had some different carnival games and a cakewalk (Pink a licious) and had children's authors come and read books and talk about writing with the kids.

We hold a chinese auction every year. Our theme is always what the schools theme for the year is. This year it is peace sign. Last year we had light bulb(recycle, reuse). We hold it at our local firehouse hall. Serve sandwiches, chips and salad for lunch included in their $25 ticket price. We have about 150 people attend which is great considering our school only has about 140 students. We generally raise around $10,000.

our school has a formal fundraiser coming up / it is beautiful don't get me wrong / but there are many parents (including myself) that wishes it was more of a casual atmosphere - I believe in today's economy you would get more parents attending if the tickets were $20 a piece with a theme instead of $50 a piece that everyone feels they need to go buy an 'adult" prom dress -

I like the baseball theme - or what about a "Let's Make A Deal" dress up like the game show - and the "let's make a deal" is you come out and support our schools you just might be one of the lucky winners of the door prizes --- and still have auction baskets but maybe offer 2 or 3 door prizes - since not everyone attending may be able to afford the auction items -

Good Luck!

You could do a costume ball. Parents and students would get a second use out of their Halloween costumes. Another option would be a beachy theme where everyone could wear sandals, shorts, etc.
