Question: Giving Cash Gifts to teachers

Our PTo has a tradition of collecting money from parents at Christmas and the end of the year for the Encore teachers (music, art, etc), depositing it and then writing checks for the teachers to spend it as they please. I feel like this is a huge problem, any advice?

If you're not doing this already, you should require that teachers spend the money on professional needs (classroom supplies, teaching aids, professional development, etc.). It's OK to let the teachers decide what those needs are, but you should be collecting receipts for your records.
