Question: Announcement of Funds

Are you supposed to announce to the parents and teachers how much money the PTO has? I know if asked, but volunteer the amount. This seems to be an issue at our school.

Yes, the amount of money on hand should be part of the treasurer's report given at each meeting. Beyond that, it's a best practice to make your finances transparent. Concealing them adds an element of secrecy to the group that tells your members they aren't important enough to learn about key information. That can put your board on the fast track to being considered a clique, which has a very negative effect on involvement.
