Question: Volunteer with past legal issues
We have a volunteer that has been heavily involved in running a few major events for our school that involve handling cash/donations. Last year, there was an article about this person being charged with stealing money from another charitable organization. I do not know the results of the court case. Obviously, we are nervous about this person representing the PTO (doesn't hold office) What can we do and how can we handle this situation?

Our school has a background check requirement for all volunteers, and the PTO considers that an appropriate gate.
You might want to look into your guidelines for handling cash -- like having two people count it. This would also be for protection of that person's reputation.
