Question: PTO treasurer

We are revising our bylaws because we have an issue of no one wanting to run for secretary and our current one is in her fourth year. We are going to be voting to update our bylaws to state that the term can be longer than four years if there is no one to step into that position. Can a treasurer hold that position for more than four years? If they are allowed, is it advisable that they do? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
