I totally agree with you! As a fellow President I know that if a student was excluded after meeting the specified requirements that when that parent comes to complain (and rightfully so) it is to me that they would be complaining, and not the Treasurer. As such, even if the specification was defined by Monday (which it was not) I would want, like it seems you do, any students who sold the 20 to get to go.

To step out of it for a second though, it may also be how things were handled once you were informed of the decision. From your explanation it is pretty obvious that you were upset about this (and rightfully so), but how did you approach the Treasurer regarding the decision? Personally, I would have approached the V.P. offline and discussed my point of view, and more than likely he/she would agree. I mean, logically, if you explained how "we can't exclude any student who met the requirement because we didn't specifiy a due date" and how "you and the V.P. would be the ones that would have to deal with the irrate parents after their kids come home crying about not being allowed to go, even though they met the 20 sold items requirement"; I can't imagine he/she fighting the point. Then you could have had the V.P. deal with the Treasurer, afterall the V.P. really should have realized that that decision was a bad one.

Of course the kids who sold 20 or more get to go. Tell this person that if they don't your future fundraisers will suffer because it appears that the PTO back tracks on their promisses. Especially if there was no deadline. Even if there was, I personally would have the kids go too since they sold the limit. Forget the deadline. The point is THEY SOLD!

Again, you did the right thing! Good for you!
And your last post telling us what a good person your treasurer is shows us one of the reasons your president!

Good for you! You stuck to what was right and, from the sounds of it, handled it all very diplomatically. It was a tough situation to be in and you stood your ground and politely explained to the parties involved that they were wrong.

We need an emiticon (smiley thingy) for clapping....

You are SO RIGHT!!! It seems pretty clear.... anyone who sells 20 items gets to go, plain and simple... And you are accepting orders thru this Thursday? Well, then shouldn't any child who sells 20 items, even those who sell items up to this Thursday, be allowed to go in the Hummer Limo for Pizza! Just think of the fun those kids will have and the stories they will tell their friends.... just think how well the next fundraiser will go after this! You are so RIGHT and I am so glad you did speak out. The kids deserve it!! You rock! Keep up the great work ~ putting the kids first!!!!
