Carnival Cakewalk

Here in Iowa you need a gambling license for any raffle whether you sell to kids or adults. I would recommend you go to your state's website and look for the gambling info and maybe even a phone number for someone you can talk to to get the information firsthand.

Last year the head of the Carnival and the principal had spoken to someone at the Indiana Department of Revenue. Who do you suggest we talk to find out what rules apply. As far as a raffle we only sell to adults. Where we use to sell to children and adults.

Does this mean you aren't allowed to do a raffle either? I know every state is different, but it sounds like someone just being a pain to me.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

That's an interesting theory. I guess that would mean our whole carnival is illegal because the kids pay a ticket to win a prize at every one! Of course, maybe we could get around that because they actually get a prize just for playing(we have small prizes for everyone who plays and bigger prizes for the kids who achieve whatever challenge the game has). We even do that for our cakewalk.

I'd check into that thoroughly before cancelling anything.

Where did you hear the info from first? From someone or from your state's chairty gaming commission? If it's from someone else you need to check with the states cgc...

It's not considered gambling in my state (Indiana)

We have a carnival every year. We are trying to figure out a good way to do the cakewalk, besides the normal way of walking in a circle and landing on a number. We have been told we can't do this because it is considered a game of chance and that is considered gambling. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this.
